We would like to introduce various initiatives on waste and recycling carried out at Shinjuku Park Tower, with the aim of realizing a sustainable circular society.
Shinjuku Park Tower's Waste and Recycling Initiatives
1. Sharing Information on Waste Treatment
We provide data sharing on waste and tours of waste treatment plants to tenant companies who request them.
2. "Clean Day" Implementation
On the first Wednesday of every month, during lunchtime, we conduct a cleanup around Shinjuku Park Tower. To participate, companies are requested to compile their entries and contact the Cleaning Center.
3. Collection of PET Bottle Caps
Collected PET bottle caps are purchased by a recycling manufacturer, and a portion of the proceeds is donated to fund vaccines for children around the world.

4. Recycling Water from Floor Cleaning
Wastewater generated during floor cleaning is separated into solids and water at a treatment plant, and the solids are used as fuel. (Generally, floor cleaning wastewater is solidified and disposed of as waste plastic.)
5. Upcycling by L'Oréal Japan and Tokyo Gas Real Estate
L'Oréal Japan's cosmetic products that are scheduled for disposal will be upcycled into building materials, and Tokyo Gas Real Estate will promote their use in buildings it develops.
As the first phase of this partnership, Tokyo Gas Real Estate will create tile building materials by upcycling 822 units of L'Oréal Japan's powder foundation, which were scheduled for disposal. These tiles will be incorporated into a portion of the building materials for student dormitories developed by the company.
Waste Recycling Destinations
Waste generated at Shinjuku Park Tower is sorted and reused as shown in the images below. Sorting work, including combustible waste and cans, is carefully carried out manually by cleaning staff at the Shinjuku Park Tower waste treatment plant, contributing to recycling and CO2 reduction.

Styrofoam
A large volume of bulky Styrofoam is discharged daily. At the Shinjuku Park Tower waste treatment plant, it is heated and compressed into blocks called "ingots." This reduces transportation frequency from daily to once a week, leading to a reduction in carbon dioxide emissions from transport and lower transportation costs.

Paper
From combustible waste, recyclable resources such as candy wrappers, envelopes, and sticky notes are manually re-sorted. Furthermore, in addition to magazines, newspapers, and shredded paper waste, important confidential documents are transported to the treatment plant using dedicated vehicles to ensure confidentiality, then shredded and dissolved to be reborn as recycled paper.
Food Waste
Biogas is extracted through methane fermentation, and this gas is used in a gas engine to generate electricity. Additionally, urban gas is produced using urban gas refining equipment.
Cans
Cans are sorted into steel and aluminum using a specialized machine, and then each type is recycled.
